H-Moll Messe J.S.Bach

April 1, 2026 @ 20:00 - 22:00
Free – €20

Johann Sebastian Bach’s Mass in B Minor is often regarded as one of the great achievements of classical music. It was not written for a single church service, but is a collection of movements that Bach composed over a long period and later brought together into one unified work. He set the Latin texts of the Catholic Mass to music, using forms and styles he had developed throughout his career.

In this mass, Bach demonstrates his musical range. Some sections are written in an older, restrained style reminiscent of the Renaissance, while others sound more like choruses from his cantatas. Each movement has its own character: reflective, lively, solemn, or celebratory. The variety in vocal writing, instrumentation, and musical technique makes the work both rich and diverse.

The Mass in B Minor offers a broad view of Bach’s compositional approach and his treatment of the Latin mass text. It gives listeners a clear sense of how he combined different musical styles in a thoughtful and coherent way.
